A drone attack in downtown Moscow on July 24 is the result of a brutal war that Russia started and that the Kremlin can stop at any moment by withdrawing its troops from Ukraine.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said this at a press briefing in Washington on July 24, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"This is a war that Russia started," she said, commenting on the latest developments, including two drone strikes in central Moscow.

Jean-Pierre said that the Kremlin could end this war at any time by withdrawing its forces from Ukraine instead of launching brutal attacks on peaceful cities. She recalled that Russia has been striking civilian objects in Ukraine almost every day for more than 15 months.

"Russia has been bombarding the Ukrainian port of Odesa; killing and injuring Ukrainian civilians; devastating UNESCO-listed World Heritage Sites, […] and destroying tens of thousands of tonnes of grain that were going to be shipped to countries around the world," she said.

Jean-Pierre also noted that the United States did not support strikes by Ukrainian forces inside of Russia. At the same time, she recalled that Crimea is part of Ukraine.

In this regard, she said that the United States, together with its allies and partners, would continue to provide security assistance to Ukraine as it is fighting for freedom and sovereignty.

Earlier reports said that a drone attack on Russia's capital, Moscow, early on July 24 had damaged a building located next to the Russian Defense Ministry and the building of the Leroy Merlin business center.

According to Russian media reports, about 25 drones attacked Moscow and its suburbs.
