Ukraine takes back about 50% of what Russia initially seized – Blinken

Ukraine has already recaptured half the territory that Russia initially seized in its invasion, but Kyiv faced “a very hard fight” to win back more.

The relevant statement was made by Reuters, citing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“It’s already taken back about 50% of what was initially seized,” Blinken said in an interview to CNN on Sunday, according to Reuters.

In his words, these are still relatively early days of the counteroffensive, and it is tough.

“It will not play out over the next week or two. We’re still looking I think at several months,” Blinken added.

A reminder that earlier the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries announced further sanctions against Russia and its supporters who help the terrorist state to circumvent restrictive measures.
