War update: Heavy fighting rages in five areas, Ukrainian forces hit enemy ammunition depot

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in an evening update published on Facebook on Monday, July 17, Ukrinform reports.

"The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka sectors, heavy fighting is ongoing. Twenty-nine combat engagements took place in the past 24 hours," the update said.

In the past 24 hours, Russia launched five missile strikes from the S-300 air defense system. In addition, the enemy carried out 34 air strikes and launched more than 40 attacks using multiple rocket launchers on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Russian terrorist attacks killed and injured children and adults and damaged residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.

The probability of the enemy launching missile and air strikes on targets across Ukraine remains high.

On the Volyn and Polissia axis, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

The enemy maintains a military presence in the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna sectors. The enemy carried out an air strike in the Bilopillia district of the Sumy region. More than 25 settlements, including Chuikivka, Boiaro-Lezhachi, Iskryskivshchyna and Pavlivka of the Sumy region and Ivashky, Kozacha Lopan, Hoptivka and Vovchansk of the Kharkiv region all came under mortar and artillery shelling.

In the Kupiansk sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are on the defensive. The settlements of Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Kupiansk and Kyslivka of the Kharkiv region came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, within the past 24 hours, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions west of Dibrova, Luhansk region. The settlements of Nevske and Bilohorivka of the Luhansk region and Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Berestove and Rozdolivka of the Donetsk region all came under artillery fire.

In the Bakhmut sector, under heavy fire from aircraft and artillery, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled attacks near Bohdanivka and Vesele of the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, including Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Pleshchiivka and Stupochky of the Donetsk region, came under enemy artillery shelling.

In the Avdiivka sector, under fire from enemy aircraft, Ukrainian defenders repelled all attacks of the invaders near the city of Avdiivka.

At the same time, the enemy fired artillery at more than ten settlements, including Avdiivka, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Netailove and Karlivka of the Donetsk region.

In the Marinka sector, Ukraine's defense forces successfully continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops outside the city of Marinka and near Krasnohorivka, Donetsk region. The enemy shelled more than ten settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Hostre, Pobieda and Heorhiivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Shakhtarske sector, the enemy launched air strikes near Makarivka, Blahodatne, Novodarivka and Komar and shelled the settlements of Blahodatne, Vuhledar, Zolota Nyva, Velyka Novosilka, and Zelene Pole of the Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson sectors, the enemy is concentrating its main efforts on preventing the further advance of Ukrainian troops. The enemy carried out an air strike outside Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements, including Vilne Pole and Vremivka of the Donetsk region, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Verkhnia Tersa and Preobrazhenka of the Zaporizhzhia region, Dudchany, Vesele, Lvove and Sadove of the Kherson region and Kherson city came under artillery fire. The city of Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region also came under fire.

At the same time, Ukraine's defense forces continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk sectors, entrenching themselves on the achieved lines, firing artillery on detected enemy targets and carrying out counter-battery measures.

In Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, Russian invaders evict all locals living along the banks of the Dnipro River from their homes, along with their children. The homes of civilian Ukrainians are occupied by military units. According to preliminary reports, in Nova Kakhovka and Kakhovka, the Russian invaders turned off mobile communications and wired internet connection. In this way, they are trying to make it impossible to record and publicize the crimes of Russian troops.

In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian aircraft carried out five strikes on areas of concentrations of Russian military personnel, weapons and hardware.
