Missile launches from the Mediterranean Sea could cause an undesirable international resonance for the Russian Federation due to the need for ships to enter inland waters and due to the flight of these missiles through the airspace of NATO member states.

Brigadier General Oleksiy Hromov, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

The brigadier general noted that the enemy has the technical capability to launch missile strikes from the Mediterranean Sea. According to him, the range of missiles is about 1500 km, which allows them to be used against targets in the southern regions of Ukraine.

At the same time, Hromov emphasized that this could cause an undesirable international resonance for Russia due to the need for ships to enter inland waters and due to the flight of these missiles through the airspace of NATO member states. "Given the current consolidation of the NATO bloc, I consider such actions by Russia unlikely. After all, the consequences would be incomparable to the actions, up to the immediate sinking of these missile carriers," he added.

As reported, as of July 4, Russia kept up to eight ships on combat duty in the Mediterranean, including one Kalibr cruise missile carrier, with a total volley of up to 16 missiles.
