Ukrainian troops trying to help residents of left-bank Kherson region evacuate
"There is a very complicated evacuation process. And the President appealed to international organizations that should join in influencing the occupying power and the occupying forces to organize the urgent rescue of those people who were trapped in the water. However, there are cases of the rescue of a family from Oleshky who received help from the [Ukraine’s] defense forces even at the risk of passing through the ‘grey zone’," Natalia Humeniuk, head of the joint coordination press center of the southern defense forces, told a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
She noted that now it is inappropriate to reveal the details of this rescue operation because many people remain there under fire.
As reported, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP on the night of June 6. Part of Kherson city and another 80 settlements have been flooded. Evacuation of people from dangerous places is organized on the right bank of the region.
The conversation between invaders intercepted by the Security Service of Ukraine confirms that the Kakhovka HPP was blown up by a Russian sabotage group.
On June 8, officers of the National Police of Ukraine managed to evacuate a woman and two children who were pleading for rescue on the roof of a flooded house in the town of Oleshky in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the occupiers completely failed the evacuation on the left bank of Kherson region. Therefore, Ukraine will address international organizations on this matter.
