Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba met with Chairman of the African Union, President of the Comoros Union Azali Assoumani, and Chairman of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahama in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

That’s according to the Ukrainian MFA, Ukrinform reports.

As noted, the meetings took place on the eve of Africa Day, which is celebrated on May 25.

Kuleba told Azali Assoumani and Moussa Faki Mahama about Ukraine's course to enhance relations with African countries, which will create new mutually beneficial opportunities for the states, businesses and citizens.

"President Zelensky's active dialogue with African leaders and my first-ever tour of the African continent last autumn launched the renaissance of Ukrainian-African relations," he said.

The minister stressed that Ukraine has already significantly intensified interaction with African countries within international organizations, and is increasing cooperation in the field of food security, and is actively sharing the experience of Ukrainian military diplomacy and countering information threats.

In this regard, the parties agreed to transfer contacts and consultations at all levels between the Government of Ukraine and the African Union Commission to a systematic basis.

At the meetings, the Ukrainian foreign minister drew attention to the negative consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine on the situation in Africa: an increase in food prices, the intensification of Wagner Group activities, and a decline in social and economic indicators.

Kuleba stressed that any peace initiatives should comply with President Zelensky's Peace Formula, which was, in particular, envisaged in the provisions of the relevant UN General Assembly resolution.

A separate topic of the meetings was food security in Africa. The Ukrainian foreign minister emphasized that due to the functioning of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, as of early May, 123 ships with 3.3 million tonnes of agricultural products were exported to African countries. In particular, this made it possible to stabilize the food situation in a number of African countries.

The minister called on the African Union to demand from Russia that it stop interrupting the work of the grain corridor in the Black Sea and finally end the blockade of Ukrainian ports.

As reported, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba is visiting African countries to promote the Peace Formula proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky and to open new perspectives for the country.
