Heavy battles ongoing for Bakhmut, Maryinka - General Staff

Russia’s troops are concentrating their main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka axes while heavy battles are being fought for Bakhmut and Marinka.

That’s according to an evening update delivered by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"The enemy continues to focus its main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions. Heavy battles are being fought for the towns of Bakhmut and Marinka. In general, throughout the day, the enemy has carried out 39 assaults," reads the report posted on Facebook.

According to the General Staff, the Russians launched eight missile strikes. In particular, two S-300 missiles hit a civilian enterprise in Balaklia, Kharkiv region, leaving five civilians injured. In addition, the Russian invaders fired five Kh-22 missiles at civilian objects in Mykolaiv region and a Kh-22 missile at Kherson region, where no casualties were reported.

The enemy also conducted 22 airstrikes and launched over 10 attacks using MLR systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region. Unfortunately, civilians deaths and injuries were reported. An apartment block, a number of private homes and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

It is highly likely that Russia will continue firing off missiles and dropping bombs in various areas.

There were no significant changes on the Volyn and Polissia axes.

In the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, the enemy aviation struck the areas of Zarichia, Leonivka, and Kostobobry of Chernihiv region. Zarichia, Orlykivka, Bleshnia, Zaliznyi Mist, Arkhipivka, Leonivka, and Buchky of Chernihiv region were subjected to mortar and artillery fire; and so were Seredyna-Buda, Vorozhba, and Iskryskivshchyna of Sumy region; and Udy, Vovchansk, Pletenivka, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha, Nesterne, and Stroivka in Kharkiv region.

The invaders ran no offensive missions in the Kupiansk direction. The enemy launched an airstrike in the Hryanikyvka area. Fiholivka, Novomlynsk, Lyman Pershyi, and Berestove of Kharkiv region were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar attacks, as were Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk region.

Over the past day, the enemy did not start offensive operations in the Lyman direction, while conducting airstrikes near the settlements of Bilohorivka in Luhansk region and Spirne in Donetsk region. Makiivka and Nevske of Luhansk region and Bilohorivka and Spirne of Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues its offensive operation.

Fighting is raging in the town of Bakhmut as the enemy is shelling the area with incendiary and phosphorus munitions. On Sunday, the enemy launched offensive efforts toward Khromove, Ivanivske, Chasovyi Yar, and Stupochky – with no gains in either area. Airstrikes hit the areas of Bakhmut, Bohdanivka, Kurdyumivka, and New York. Zaliznyanske, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Markove, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Oleksandro-Shultine, and Leonidivka of Donetsk region were affected by enemy shelling.

In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy was on the offensive in the Avdiivka and Pervomaiske districts – with no success. The Russians shelled Berdychi, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Netailove, Karlivka, and Hostre in Donetsk region.

In the Maryinka direction, the enemy continues to attack the positions of Ukraine defense forces where battles continue for the town of Maryinka. At the same time, Heorhiivka, Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, and Pobieda of Donetsk region came under enemy fire.

The enemy did not run offensive missions in the Shakhtarske direction on Sunday, while shelling Novomykhailivka, Yelizavetivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Novoukrainka, Shakhtarske, and Velyka Novosilka of Donetsk region.

The Russians are on the defensive in the Zaporizhia and Kherson directions. The areas near Vremivka in Donetsk region and Novodanylivka in Zaporizhia region were hit by Russian airstrikes. The Russians shelled more than 45 settlements, including Zaliznychne, Hulyaipilske, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, and Kamianske in Zaporizhia region; Zolota Balka, Vesele, Antonivka, Zelenivka, and Kizomys in Kherson region, as well as the city of Kherson.

Under the pretext of evacuating civilians, the Russian forces to take away looted property from the front-line settlements of the temporarily captured territories in Zaporizhia region. Thus, in Mykhailivka, employees of financial institutions managed by occupation authorities were spotted evacuating the area in vehicles along with the property looted from local residents. Also, 15 buses arrived in Dniprorudne to evacuate representatives of the Russian pseudo-administration and the so-called "people's militia" together with their families. Meanwhile, Russian military servicemen en masse rob local stores specializing in office equipment and steal civilian cars.

According to the General Staff, Ukraine’s Air Force on Sunday carried out six strikes on enemy manpower and military equipment clusters, as well as hit an anti-aircraft missile complex. Artillery troops hit two Russian control points, two clusters, and three ammunition depots.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russia's death toll currently stands at 194,430. Over the past day alone, 660 Russian soldiers were eliminated.
