Ukrainian defenders repel more than 30 Russian attacks in three directions

Russian forces are focusing main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions, Ukrainian defenders have repelled more than 30 enemy attacks over the past day.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in an evening update on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

 "The fiercest battles for Bakhmut and Marinka are ongoing, our soldiers are steadfastly holding the defense," the General Staff said.

As reported, the Ukrainian Air Force launched six airstrikes targeting enemy personnel and military equipment clusters.

Units of the Ukrainian missile troops and artillery hit five areas of concentration of weapons and military equipment, three ammunition and fuel depots, one air defense system and five more important targets of the enemy.

The General Staff stresses that the Russian Federation continues to use terror tactics. Throughout the day, the invaders launched two missile attacks and 26 airstrikes, as well as about 20 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems.

As a result of enemy attacks, civilians were affected, private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

The General Staff warns that the threat of further enemy missile attacks and airstrikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of Russian offensive group’s formation were detected. Certain units of Russian force are staying on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

In the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, Russia maintains a military presence in Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions bordering Ukraine. Russian forces shelled Buchky in Chernihiv region, Znob-Trubchevska, Stara Huta, Baranivka, Tovstodubove, Bachivsk, Volfyne in Sumy region, Chervona Zoria, Udy, Veterynarne, Hraniv, Kozacha Lopan, Hoptivka, Hlyboke, Lukiantsi, Neskuchne and Starytsia in Kharkiv region.

In the Kupiansk direction, Bilohirka, Krasne Pershe, Fyholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Lyman Pershyi, Pishchane and Stelmakhivka in Kharkiv region came under Russian artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Lyman direction, the invaders did not carry out offensive actions, instead they fired artillery at Makiivka in Luhansk region, Nevske, Yampolivka, Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske and Spirne in Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues to advance, heavy fighting continues for the city of Bakhmut. Throughout the day, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensives in the areas of Hryhorivka, Ivanovo, and New York.

Vasiukivka, Minkivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Markove, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pivdenne, Toretsk, Severne and New York in Donetsk region came under Russian shelling.

In the Avdiivka direction, the Russian army carried out offensive operations in the Avdiivka area, but had no success. At the same time, the invaders shelled Orlivka, Lastochkyne, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Karlivka, Netailove and Pervomaiske in Donetsk region.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled numerous Russian attacks in the Maryinka area during the day. Kurakhove, Heorhiivka, Marinka, Pobieda, Yelyzavetivka, Katerynivka and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region came under enemy fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops did not conduct offensive operations. However, they struck Shakhtarsk, Prechystivka, and Vuhledar in Donetsk region.

In the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia directions, the invaders continue to conduct defensive operations and shell settlements. In total, more than 40 towns and villages came under enemy shelling during the day.

As reported by Ukrinform, on the night of May 5, the Ukrainian air defenses destroyed two Russian Shahed-136/131 drones over Dnipropetrovsk region.
