Reznikov calls on Germany to join creation of ‘naval coalition’ in support of Ukraine

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has called on German partners to join the creation of a "naval coalition" in support of Ukraine, which would become a permanent guarantee of ensuring the safety of navigation in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Reznikov met with Inspector General of the Bundeswehr General Carsten Breuer, as part of his visit to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian defense minister emphasized that Western, in particular, German weapons are one of the important components that help protect Ukrainians and repel Russia.

"The arms and equipment we receive from our German partners help save the lives of our soldiers on the frontlines, peaceful Ukrainians, and protect the infrastructure from destruction. The quality of German equipment is checked by me personally. And I thank Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius and the entire German people for the assistance we are receiving in this difficult time for Ukraine,” said Reznikov.

Reznikov told about the experience in combating enemy unmanned aerial vehicles and invited the German side to cooperate in this direction.

Reznikov also called on German partners to join the creation of a "naval coalition" in support of Ukraine.

"We already have a ‘tank coalition,’ Ramstein is also a coalition. They all work for a single goal - the victory of Ukraine. Our common task is to build a strong system of international security architecture, and the security of navigation in the Black and Azov Seas is an important element in this system. Some of our European partners are already part of this coalition. And I would very much like Germany to become a part of it too," Reznikov stressed.

The parties also considered a number of practical steps to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities with the support of Germany. In particular, the possibility of expanding training programs for the Ukrainian military in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Breuer expressed support for Ukraine and emphasized that the experience gained by Ukrainian defenders is also important for the German Armed Forces.

The parties emphasized the need for further enhancing cooperation to ensure the urgent needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As reported by Ukrinform, the German government in April handed over another package of military aid to Ukraine, in particular, antennas, drones and ammunition.
