Russia’s recent attacks indicate a possible shift away from targeting Ukraine’s electrical power network. Both recent strikes likely focused on Ukraine’s military, industrial and logistical infrastructure.

The relevant statement was made by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom on Twitter, referring to the latest Defense Intelligence update, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In particular, Russia mounted air launched cruise missile (ALCM) strikes against Ukraine on April 28, 2023 and May 1, 2023. These were the first such strikes for 50 days, with the last prior strikes occurring on March 9, 2023.

The latest strikes were conducted by Russian Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers, likely using Kh-101 and Kh-555 ALCMs.

According to the UK intelligence, both strikes used smaller numbers of missiles than seen in previous attacks, which is likely due to Russian attempts to rebuild its ALCM stockpiles.

“The observed types of facilities damaged by the Russian strikes indicate a possible shift away from targeting Ukraine’s electrical power network. Both recent strikes were likely focused on Ukraine’s military, industrial and logistical infrastructure,” the UK intelligence noted.

A reminder that, on the night of April 28, 2023, Russian troops fired cruise missiles at the Cherkasy region’s Uman. The enemy projectiles caused damage to 10 residential houses and completely smashed one of the two entrances to a 9-storey apartment block. Twenty-three civilians were reported killed.
