Zelensky's decrees on extension of martial law, mobilization pass Rada committee

The Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence recommends that the parliament approve draft laws on the approval of presidential decrees extending martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine from May 20 for 90 days.

This is stated in the committee's conclusions to the draft Law "On Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On Extension of the Martial Law in Ukraine" (No. 9259) and the draft Law "On Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On Extension of the General Mobilization Period" (No. 9260), published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrinform reports.

"The Committee recommends that the Verkhovna Rada, following the first reading, adopt the draft law as a basis and as a whole as a law, approving the decision of the President of Ukraine," the two conclusions of the Defense Committee state.

As reported earlier, the day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky registered two bills in the Verkhovna Rada to approve his decrees on extending martial law and general mobilization from May 20 for 90 days.

On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On the same day, martial law was introduced in the country and general mobilization was announced until March 26. Subsequently, martial law and general mobilization were extended by the parliament until April 25, May 25, August 23, November 21, 2022, February 19, and May 20, 2023.
