European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said that the Chinese leadership should use its influence on Russia to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by France24.

"China's leadership needs to use its influence to bring Russia to end its war of aggression, restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and respect its sovereignty, as a basis for a just peace," Mamer said.

He also added that the telephone conversation between the leaders of China and Ukraine is a very important and long overdue first step on the part of China in fulfilling its responsibilities as a member of the UN Security Council.

As Ukrinform reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese side reported that Xi said, among other things, that Beijing would send a special representative for Eurasian affairs to Ukraine and other countries to hold talks with all parties on a political settlement of the "crisis in Ukraine."

The special representative of the Chinese government, whom Beijing will send to Kyiv, will be former Deputy Foreign Minister and former Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Russia Li Hui.
