A total of 2,238 people have been released from Russian captivity since February 24, 2022, including 140 civilians. Ukraine is constantly working on the release of both military and civilians.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following his meeting with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas in Zhytomyr, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

According to the Head of State, the Joint Center for the coordination of search and release of persons illegally deprived of freedom as a result of the Russian armed aggression operates around the clock.

“We are working on the release of both military and civilians. Of course, torture takes place, first of all, against the heroes of our state, those who defended it. We are working constantly and will continue to do so,” Zelensky stressed.

A reminder that, on April 16, 2023, Ukraine and Russia conducted an Easter prisoner swap. A total of 130 Ukrainian defenders returned home.
