Air defense systems promised by partners already on their way to future positions – Ihnat

Patriot air defense system handed over by the Western partners is already on combat duty in Ukraine and protects Ukrainian skies from enemy missiles, including ballistic missiles and aircraft, other air defense systems are still on their way.

Yuriy Ihnat, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said this on the air of the national news telethon, Ukrinform reports.

“One of the divisions already took over a few days ago and is at work... The others (air defense systems - ed.) that were promised to us are already on their way to their future positions. We hope that there will already be some results against Russian aircraft in particular," Ihnat said.

He reminded that Mykola Oleshchuk, the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, had already checked the combat positions of the Patriot air defense system in one of the sectors and thanked the anti-aircraft gunners who completed the training much earlier than planned.

Ihnat also noted that Russia uses up to 40 of its own, Belarusian and Crimean airfields for launching attacks on Ukraine.

"The war in our country is ongoing mainly in the eastern direction and further south, in Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv regions. Strikes were recently recorded in Chernihiv and Sumy regions. After all, it happens all the time. About 20 aircraft from these airfields are in the airspace during daylight hours," the spokesman added.

As reported, Yuriy Ihnat, the spokesman for the Air Force Command, previously emphasized that Patriot air and missile defense systems received from international partners will significantly strengthen Ukraine's air defense and allow keeping Russian aircraft away from the border.
