Ukraine’s Air Force eight times strikes Russian positions in past day - General Staff

Ukrainian war pilots eight times struck enemy positions along the front lines on Saturday.

That’s according to a morning update by the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Ukrinform reports.

"An enemy Mi-24 helicopter and four enemy UAVs were shot down (two reconnaissance UAVs, Orlan-10 and Zala, as well as two kamikaze drones of the Lancet type). During the day, rocket and artillery units struck four enemy clusters, two ammunition depots, and two more important military objects," military reports.

At the same time, Russia launched eight missile strikes, 37 air strikes, while their MLR systems fired about 45 salvos at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Civilian casualties have been reported, as well as destruction and damage to residential blocks and other civilian infrastructure.

"The enemy is focusing its main efforts on offensive operations in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Maryinka, where 58 attacks were repulsed. The fiercest battles continue for Bakhmut and Maryinka," General Staff said.

It is highly likely that Russia will continue launching missiles and bombs throughout the territory of Ukraine.

On the Volyn and Polissia axes, the operational situation saw no significant changes.

In the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, the enemy carried out an airstrike on Orlykivka and shelled the settlements of Karpovychi and Khotiivka, Chernihiv region; Ulianivka, Brusky, Stukalyvka, Volfine, Korenivka, and Yunakivka in Sumy region; as well as Timofiivka in Kharkiv region.

Novomlynsk, Zapadne, Masyutivka, Synkivka, Kislivka, and Berestove of Kharkiv region were hit by enemy artillery fire in the Kupiansk direction.

The enemy ran no offensive operations in the Lyman direction. Makiivka, Nevske, and Bilohorivka of Luhansk region, and Dibrova, Verkhnokamianske, and Spirne of Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

Fierce battles for the town of Bakhmut continue. Near the settlements of Hryhorivka, Khromove, and Ivanivske, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive operations. Rozdolivka, Vasyukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Bila Hora, Diliivka, Zalizne, Pivnichne, Pivdenne, and New York of Donetsk region were affected by enemy shelling.

In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive operations in the areas of Novokalynove, Donetsk region, with no gains. Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region came under shelling.

Ukraine’s defenders also repelled enemy attacks in the Maryinka area. In addition, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region came under enemy fire.

On the Shakhtarske axis, the Russians shelled Vuhledar, Prechistivka, Novoukrainka, Zolota Nyva, and Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region.

The enemy is on the defensive in the Zaporizhia and Kherson directions. Over the past 24 hours, mortar and artillery fire hit over 30 settlements. Among them are Vremivka, Zelene Pole, Donetsk region; Hulyaipole, Zaliznychne, Hulyaipilske, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, and Kamianske of Zaporizhia region; Sablukivka, Beryslav, Kozatske, Tokarivka, Inhulets, Inzhenerne, Antonivka, Bilozerka, Berehove, and Kizomys in Kherson region, as well as the city of Kherson.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, referring to the General Staff, Russia’s death toll in Ukraine has climbed to 185,730 as of April 22.
