Kuleba: EU's inability to implement decisions on ammunition for Ukraine is frustrating

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that the inability of the European Union to implement its own decisions on the joint purchase of ammunition for Ukraine is frustrating.

Ukraine's foreign policy chief said this on his Twitter account, according to Ukrinform.

"The inability of the EU to implement its own decision on the joint procurement of ammunition for Ukraine is frustrating. This is a test of whether the EU has strategic autonomy in making new crucial security decisions. For Ukraine, the cost of inaction is measured in human lives," said Kuleba.

The EU earlier approved the decision on the rapid supply of 1 million ammunition rounds to Ukraine. To achieve this goal, the EU countries agreed to allocate EUR 1 billion from the European Peace Facility to compensate EU countries for the supply of existing ammunition. They also disbursed EUR 1 billion to increase the capabilities of the European defense industry in the production of artillery shells both for Ukraine and for replenishing arsenals in EU countries.

On Wednesday, April 19, media reports said that France and Poland had a dispute and the ambassadors of the EU countries were unable to resolve differences regarding joint EU contracts for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
