Ukrainian cyclist Deneka killed near Bakhmut

Ukrainian cyclist Kostiantyn Deneka, 40, has been killed in action in the battles for Bakhmut.

That's according to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports, Ukrinform reports.

Deneka served in a special operations unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense.

"Kostiantyn Deneka was a member of the Leader Citroen Team, winning dozens of all-Ukrainian cycling competitions. Even during short breaks, the fighter continued his favorite business and attended cycling competitions. In September, Kostia came to Bucha to support participants in a bike ride to mark the City Day," the Verkhovna Rada said.

The athlete was killed near Bakhmut on March 31. He turned 40 on March 12.
