Barbarity and atrocity: State Department reacts to footage of execution of Ukrainian soldier
State Department spokesperson Ned Price said this at a briefing in Washington on Tuesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"The harrowing imagery of this unarmed Ukrainian being executed after making the simple statement of glory to Ukraine is just breathtaking in terms of its barbarity," he said.
Price added that Russia should be ashamed of itself.
"It [Russia] is flouting the basic rules of war, basic humanity, basic decency, when its forces take part in atrocities like this," he said.
Price recalled that members of Russia's force had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
"We're not naïve to believe that Russia will admit to this or – in the near term – even change its ways. This, of course, is not the first evidence of Russia's apparent atrocities in Ukraine. Unfortunately, it probably will not be the last," he said.
According to him, Russia has repeatedly said that it wants peace, but has not done anything for it. Price repeated the U.S. position that there can be peace in Ukraine today if Moscow decides to stop its aggression and withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory.
According to the Ukrainian Ground Forces, a Ukrainian serviceman executed by Russians is Tymofiy Shadura, a soldier of the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
