"Decades after the Babyn Yar tragedy, this land and this remembrance have been subjected to a new desecration. Russian terrorists fired missiles. On March 1, 2022, this Russian crime was committed – against history, against humanity, against Kyiv and Ukraine," the head of state wrote.
The terrorist state will be brought to full accountability for its genocidal war, the president stressed.
"Every murderer, terrorist and torturer will be brought to justice. Historical justice will be restored. Life and Ukraine will prevail!" emphasized Zelensky.
As reported, on March 1, 2022, Russian missiles hit the area of the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial.
At the same time, the Russians also fired at a TV transmission tower near Babyny Yar. The strike killed five people.
Memo. During World War 2, the German occupation forces used the Babyn Yar tract in the northwestern part of Kyiv as a site of mass executions of civilians, mainly the Jews. On September 29, 1941, by order of the occupation administration, the entire Jewish population was obliged to arrive in Babyn Yar. People were escorted in groups through the checkpoint, after which they were forced to come up to the edge of the ravine where they were shot. On September 29-30, a total of 33,771 people were killed. The massacres lasted until the occupiers withdrew from the city. According to official data, about 100,000 people were executed there.
