Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi in a phone call with Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley shared his concern over Russia's use of naval unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), which poses a threat to the civilian maritime shipping in the Black Sea.

“I had a phone call with General Milley, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. I informed my colleague about Russia’s latest missile attack, emphasized the importance of air defense means, thanked for providing them. I shared my concern about Russia’s use of naval USVs, which poses a threat to the civilian maritime shipping in the Black Sea,” Zaluzhnyi said in a post on Telegram.  

According to him, they also discussed the course of hostilities in Ukraine.

“The tensest situation is the Donetsk direction, where the enemy launches up to 50 attacks every day. Fierce fighting continues in the areas of Vuhledar and Maryinka,” Zaluzhnyi wrote.

"We reliably hold the defense. In some sectors of the front, we managed to regain control of previously lost positions. Despite constant enemy pressure, we continue to hold Bakhmut under control and take measures to stabilize the front line around this town,” he wrote.

According to Zaluzhnyi, the key to success on the battlefield is effective attacks, “which require an appropriate amount of weapons, equipment, and ammunition.”

Zaluzhnyi also thanked General Milley for “understanding the needs of Ukraine’s Defence Forces to repel Russia’s armed aggression, a significant personal contribution to the acceleration of our victory and, and unwavering support for Ukraine”.
