First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Korniyenko, at a meeting with the members of the European Parliament, emphasized that the international community must urgently and decisively respond to Russian terrorism.

The lawmaker posted the report on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

"We are glad to welcome MEPs to the capital of invincibility — here in Kyiv, Ukraine. Today I had a meeting with Timmy Dooley and Billy Kelleher in the Verkhovna Rada. We continue our cooperation with the EU and its representatives. We talked about Ukraine. About terror. About missiles launched by the Russian Federation. About cruelty. About those who are to blame for this. About responsibility for the crimes committed. The Ukrainian side believes that the international community must urgently and decisively respond to Russian terrorism. We hope for a pace-up of the comprehensive international isolation of Russia, swift introduction and strict implementation of all sanctions, and a significant increase in political, economic, financial, military-technical, and humanitarian support for Ukraine," said Korniyenko.

According to the legislator, Ukraine, like no other, is interested in establishing peace and ending the unprovoked war of destruction unleashed by Russia.

"In order for peace to be truly sustainable, it must be based on clear criteria, in particular, the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders and the prevention of further escalation, which is possible only if the Kremlin's war machine is destroyed," the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed.

In this context, Korniyenko recalled the Peace Formula put forward by President Volodymyr Zelensky, which is not only aimed at establishing peace in Ukraine, but also has a global dimension, namely the restoration of respect for the UN Charter and the world order. "We expect that the EU, given its role and potential in the modern world, will become a permanent participant in the implementation of all 10 points and assist the leading states and other participants in advancing them," he noted.

He also informed that during the meeting he had the opportunity to personally praise the approval of the European Parliament's resolution supporting the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

"It is important to reach an agreement as soon as possible on a mutually acceptable prosecution mechanism for the crime of Russian aggression in Ukraine," Korniyenko emphasized.

In addition, he noted that the President, Verkhovna Rada, and Government of Ukraine "are united around the promotion of European integration reforms in the country and are determined to move towards EU membership despite the war, as quickly as possible."

"We are preparing to present the results of Ukraine's implementation of all seven recommendations of the European Commission at the Ukraine-EU Summit, and we expect a positive assessment of our efforts by the EU," said the lawmaker.

He also thanked the EU as a whole and each EU country for the support already provided to Ukraine, and emphasized the need for this aid to be more systematic.

"We need a financial coordination platform that will unite efforts to rebuild our country in the post-war period. Consolidation is required. We have developed a transparent plan of priority steps in reconstruction — this is what Ukraine literally needs to survive," Korniyenko added.

As reported, a group of eight members of the European Parliament is visiting Ukraine from January 30 to February 2 against the background of the build-up of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.
