The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has confirmed the deaths of three servicemen amid the explosions that hit the Engels military airfield in Saratov region.

This was reported by Zvezda TV, run by the ministry, Ukrinform reports.

"Three Russian servicemen were mortally wounded by UAV debris," the statement reads.

The outlet claims that the Russian "air defense shot down a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle flying at low altitude as it was approaching the Engels military airfield in Saratov region." It is also noted that no warplanes were damaged in the attack.

As reported, overnight Monday, December 26, explosions rang out at the strategic military airfield in Engels, Russia.

It is from this site that all massive Russian missile attacks on Ukraine are carried out. The base is home to Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers.

Two bombers are believed to have been damaged in the previous attack, presumably carried out by a drone. Ukraine has not officially taken responsibility for the strike.
