Russia not up for any peace talks - Ukrainian expert

The extended meeting of the Russian defense ministry, held on Wednesday with Vladimir Putin’s participation shows that Russia is preparing for a prolonged war and that there are currently no plans in Moscow to go for any negotiations.

This was stated at the national telethon by the executive chief of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vadym Denysenko, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Answering the question of whether it is possible to assess the interdependence of President Volodymyr Zelensky's visits to the United States and Putin's visit to Belarus to see Alexander Lukashenko, the expert expressed the opinion that it would be more correct to talk about the interdependence of Zelensky's visit to the U.S. and the top defense meeting in Russia, held on Wednesday.

"At that meeting, Putin, in fact, blessed the decision to increase the Russian army, and de facto he said that all Russians aged 21-30 will be mobilized next year. In this case, Russia showed the whole world, in principle, that they are preparing for a protracted war, and that they are not going to enter into any negotiations at the moment," he said.

Denysenko said that the Russians did it on the day of Zelensky's visit to D.C.

"Understanding what the outcome of Zelensky's visit to the USA will be... they wanted to play deterrence," said the executive director of the Ukrainian Future Institute.

Answering the question that the Russian system, even logistical, may not be able to withstand such a large number of conscripts, the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that people have never been of great importance to Russians.

"The logic with which they do all this is a repetition of that of, if not the 19th century, then at least the of 1939-1945. The fact that they decided yesterday to restore the Moscow and Leningrad military districts is, frankly, nonsensical, from the point of view of modern military science," he clarified.

Earlier, media reported that the Institute for the Study of War said Putin's statements indicate that Moscow has come to terms with its colossal losses and will seek to win the war.
