Over 200 bodies yet to be identified in liberated areas of Kharkiv region - police

In Kharkiv region, more than 200 bodies, discovered in the liberated territories, are yet to be identified.

This was stated on Telegram by the Kharkiv Region Police Department, Ukrinform reports.

"More than 200 recovered bodies are yet to be identified in the de-occupied territories," the police said.

It is noted that on December 19, the Kharkiv Region Police Department received from American donors three state-of-the-art DNA laboratories, allowing for express DNA tests, which will significantly shorten the process of identifying discovered bodies. Law enforcers will soon receive a fourth such laboratory.

The four labs cost $1.7 million.

"On Tuesday, one of the labs will be deployed in Izium, others will operate in Kharkiv," the regional police department said.

As reported with reference to confirmed data provided by law enforcement, in Kharkiv regoin, 1,635 civilians were killed as a result of Russia’s armed aggression, while more than 2,500 were injured.

Since the full-scale invasion, Russian troops had managed to temporarily capture about a third of the territory of the region. During the counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in September-October, almost all of this territory was liberated. Currently, fighting continues in the Kupiansk district.
