Russian troops continue attempts to break through the defense of Ukrainian forces in eastern Ukraine but have had no success so far.

The relevant statement was made by Spokesperson for the Eastern Grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhii Cherevatyi during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Commenting on the situation on the eastern front, Cherevatyi noted that enemy troops are making every effort to break through Ukraine’s defense lines there. For this purpose, Russian invaders are using the whole range of weapons and military equipment: artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, tanks and aircraft. However, most importantly, they are failing to break through Ukraine’s defense, take in the rear, reach the operational space and advance forward, Cherevatyi told.

In his words, Russians are suffering colossal losses in terms of personnel and equipment in eastern Ukraine.

According to Cherevatyi, Russian troops are losing a battalion, around 500 soldiers, per day.

“These are enormous losses for a modern army. I can’t even remember last time, when there were such losses, except for World War II,” Cherevatyi added.

A reminder that, between February 24, 2022 and December 18, 2022, Russia’s total combat losses in Ukraine reached about 98,280 troops.
