The Security Service has identified one of the intelligence chiefs as part of the Russian airborne forces, who is actively participating in combat operations in eastern Ukraine.

That’s according to the SBU press service, Ukrinform reports.

"Being part of the invasion grouping, he organizes the training and coordinates the activities of Russian subversive and reconnaissance groups in Donetsk region," the statement reads.

Under his leadership, enemy subversive groups are trying to break through the front line to carry out sabotage against Ukrainian troops and critical infrastructure facilities.

It has been established that the perpetrator is a "Hero of Russia", a major general with the Russian Armed Forces, call sign "Storozh," who was "seconded" to the “DPR” terrorist organization back in 2014.

There, he was involved in the formation and combat training of Russian spec-op forces groups to carry out reconnaissance and subversive activities against the Anti-Terrorist Operation Forces. To this end, he used his special skills and experience acquired in the North Caucasus conflicts.

As the SBU noted, it was this officer who commanded an enemy subversive and reconnaissance teams during the capture of Sloviansk by the so-called Strelkov Group and after that.

At the onset of the full-scale invasion, the culprit was tasked by Moscow to organize the work of sabotage groups among the Russian Air Force servicemen and members of the "DPR" terrorist groups.

Based on the evidence collected, the SBU detectives charged the general in absentia under Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (participation in a terrorist organization and facilitating its work) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Comprehensive measures are underway to bring the suspect to justice for crimes committed against Ukraine.

The inquiry is being run by the SBU’s Vinnytsia Office under the procedural guidance of regional prosecutors.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, National Police investigators charged in November three Russian soldiers who had shot a man and tortured residents of Irpin back in March.
