U.S. sees no indications in Belarus that could change course of war in Ukraine - Pentagon

The United States does not see any "alarming" indications related to the deployment of troops in Belarus, which could potentially affect the development of the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine.

A senior U.S. military official said this at a briefing on Monday, October 17, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"In regards to Belarus, it's something we're certainly keeping an eye on. At this time, we don't have any indications that would cause us to, you know, change our perspectives on the battlefield as it stands right now," the official said.

At the same time, he added that the United States also does not see anything in regards to the movement of Russian nuclear capable aircraft or systems within Russia, which would cause the U.S. to change its overall strategic posture in Europe.

The Belarusian military leadership earlier said it was ready to deploy about 9,000 Russian troops in Belarus as part of a "regional grouping" of forces to protect its borders.

At the same time, Russia announced the beginning of its annual nuclear forces exercise Grom (Thunder). In this regard, NATO is conducting its own nuclear deterrence exercise, Steadfast Noon, involving 14 countries, with training flights of warplanes over Belgium, the North Sea and Britain.
