The Russian troops shell the Zaporizhzhia NPP to destroy its infrastructure, cut it off from Ukraine's energy system, and black the south out.

"The nuclear terrorism acts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP – artillery strikes on NPP – are aimed at destroying the plant's infrastructure, damaging all power lines through which electricity is supplied to the Ukrainian energy system, and blacking the south of the country out," the press service of the Energoatom (National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine) informs.

It is noted that the shelling of the plant is likely to continue.

"Coordinated actions of security organizations, in particular the UN, IAEA, and WANO, as well as constant international community’s pressure on Russia to withdraw the troops from Europe's largest nuclear facility and its complete demilitarization can prevent this. It is necessary to return ZNPP the status of a peaceful civilian object, which it had before the Russian invasion," Energoatom emphasizes.

The company is confident that the Russian Federation can implement its plan to turn the ZNPP into a military base for nuclear terrorists.

As specified, this plan also includes further complete de-energization of the plant (blackout) with the start-up of diesel generators of all power units to cool the nuclear fuel contained in all nuclear reactors and spent nuclear fuel storage pools of each power unit.

As reported, on August 5, Russian invaders shelled the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP – three strikes near the industrial site were recorded.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the situation at the ZNPP, said that "any shelling of nuclear facilities is an audacious act of terror."
