UN experts ready to help investigate attack on prison in Olenivka

Experts of the United Nations pledged support to help officials in Ukraine investigate an attack on a prison in Olenivka.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said in a statement, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Voice of America.

“In relation to the recent tragedy at the prison in Olenivka, we stand ready to send a group of experts able to conduct an investigation, requiring the consent of the parties, and we fully support the initiatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC),” the deputy spokesperson said.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military deliberately attacked the facility in the temporarily occupied town of Olenivka, Donetsk region.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, mercenaries of the Russian private military company, the Wagner Group, carried out the murder of Ukrainian prisoners.

More than 50 captured Ukrainian defenders were killed.
