The border and generally the direction in the area of Transnistria is controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and tightly secured. Recent provocations have been aimed at distracting Ukrainian defense forces in the southern direction.

The relevant statement was made by Head of the United Coordination Press Center of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine Natalia Humeniuk during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“This situation with Transnistria was back on July 10. […] It was some imitation of activities intended to create certain tension and attract the attention of the military command, our army to this direction. But, the Transnistria direction is tightly secured; the border and adjacent areas are reliably protected, and we feel rather calm in this area. However, we realize that insidiousness can be at a very high level and, thus, we do not relax and have the defense forces that will ensure control over this area there. Meanwhile, the main forces of Ukraine Army are now indeed concentrated in the contact line, Mykolaiv-Kherson direction,” Humeniuk told.

A reminder that, on July 7, 2022, Ukrainian Defense Deputy Minister Hanna Maliar noted that, based on the intelligence data, launching the offensive from the territory of Transnistria and Belarus is considered as one of possible scenarios but unlikely at the moment.
