Oleh Kutsyn, commander of the Karpatska Sich Battalion, was killed on eastern front.

“Oleh Kutsyn, one of the most powerful commanders, was killed on the eastern front. He was the founder and longtime leader of the Freedom Legion, commander of the Karpatska Sich Battalion (49th Separate Rifle Battalion of the Armed Forces). He was known as a true warrior, respected as a commander and a good man with an indomitable character," Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv posted on Facebook, expressing condolences to the family of the deceased.

Oleh Kutsyn is a Ukrainian public, political and military figure, head of the Legion of Freedom, member of the political council of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda” (Freedom). He was twice elected as a member of the Tiachiv City Council.

With the start of hostilities in eastern Ukraine, Kutsyn organized a volunteer group that collected and delivered aid to Ukrainian service members serving in Slovyansk district of Donetsk region. In early summer 2014, the volunteers decided to join the National Guard.
