Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić firmly condemns the death penalty sentences issued on Thursday in the occupied Donetsk to three foreign nationals who had taken part in hostilities as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

That’s according to a statement released by the CoE press service.

“I firmly condemn the death penalty sentences issued today in the occupied Ukrainian city of Donetsk. Death penalty is incompatible with human dignity and constitutes inhuman and degrading treatment. It has no place on the European continent,” the top official said.

On behalf of the Council of Europe, she called for “upholding the common European human rights principles with which today’s decision is incompatible.”

As reported earlier the so-called court of the Russian puppet entity “Donetsk People’s Republic” ruled to execute three foreign nationals who had fought as part of the Ukrainian Army before being captured on the front line.

The Russian-controlled court convicted Britain’s Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48, as well as Saaudun Brahim of Morocco, on charges of “terrorism.”
