Russian troops fire on two villages in Kherson region, casualties reported

A pre-trial investigation has been launched in Kherson region over Russian shelling of Chornobayivka and Pravdyne, where a person was killed and seven – injured.

That’s according to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, Ukrinform reports.

"According to the inquiry, on May 18, 2022, Russian occupying forces shelled the village of Chornobaivka, killing a local resident, 38, injuring five others who are currently in hospital," the report reads.

Also, according to the regional prosecutor's office, in the village of Pravdyne, a family couple sustained shrapnel wounds after an enemy projectile hit their household. Information about other victims is being clarified.

The enemy's shelling damaged civilian infrastructure in the said settlements and left many residents homeless.

It is noted that these actions pose a direct threat to the lives and health of civilians, contrary to international humanitarian law, which explicitly prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian objects.

Under the procedural guidance of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation is run into violations of the laws and customs of war (parts 1 and 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

At the same time, according to Vitaliy Kucheruk, CEO of the Kherson International Airport, as a result of Russian aggression, an airport employee Ihor Dokienko was killed in Chornobayivka by a Russian shelling on May 18.

As Ukrinform reported, three people were killed and six were injured in Russian shelling of a civilian convoy in the Kherson region.
