Dozens of houses destroyed, bridge damaged in shelling of Luhansk region

Over the past day, May 12, Russian troops launched 31 attacks on residential neighbourhoods of Luhansk region, destroying almost 60 houses and damaging a bridge across the Borova River.

"Russians assaulted Hirske and Popasna territorial communities: almost 60 houses were destroyed, a bridge in Rubizhne was damaged ... Russians launched 31 attacks on residential neighbourhoods of Luhansk region on May 12," the press service of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration posted on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

The Administration informs that seven high-rise blocks were damaged in Sievierodonetsk and another one – in Lysychansk. However, Popasna and Hirske communities suffered the most as the invaders carried out assault operations in the direction of Orikhove and in the area of Komyshuvakha. The enemy failed to advance but destroyed more than 50 residential buildings: 15 – in Vrubivka, 12 – in Zolote, 11 – in Komyshuvakha, six – in Toshkivka, four – in Troitske, nine – in other villages of Popasna community.

Two people were killed in the enemy shelling. A man from Lysychansk received fatal injuries on the evening of May 11. An 11-year-old boy from Zolote, who was in critical condition, died in hospital in Dnipro city.

According to the regional administration data, the Russians continue to focus their efforts on establishing full control over Rubizhne.

The invaders destroyed the bridge, which was the first to be rebuilt in Luhansk region after the expulsion of the occupiers in 2014. The transport link between Sievierodonetsk and Rubizhne no longer exists.

In Luhansk and Donetsk directions, the Ukrainian defenders repulsed 18 enemy attacks and destroyed 13 tanks, eight artillery systems, 27 armored personnel vehicles, two units of special engineering equipment, and five vehicles over the past day.

The air defense units shot down one enemy Ka-52 helicopter and four Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles.
