Enemy with air support unable to take control of Azovstal

"Blockade and attempts to eliminate our units in the Azovstal area in Mariupol continue. In some areas, the enemy resumed the offensive with air support to take control of the plant. The enemy does not succeed," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

According to latest information, as of 18:00 on May 4, the enemy continues to conduct offensive operations in the Eastern Operational Zone.

"The command of the Russian troops tries to increase the pace of the offensive in eastern Ukraine in order to reach the administrative borders of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, as well as to develop the offensive in Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih areas," the report reads.

To do this, the enemy tries to inflict losses on units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, regroups and strengthens its troops, increases the fire damage, and enhances logistics.

The enemy also intensified missile and bomb strikes to destroy Ukraine's transport infrastructure.

In Slobozhansky direction, there is an enemy group consisting of units of the 6th combined arms army of the Western Military District, the 41st combined arms army of the Central Military District, the coastal troops of the Baltic and Northern Fleets. Air strikes on and artillery shelling of Kharkiv continue.

Russian invaders deployed an auxiliary command post of the 36th combined arms army of the Eastern Military District in Valuysk district of Belgorod region.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine notes that the enemy redeploys personnel from Belgorod region to strengthen the grouping of troops.

In Izium direction, the enemy tries to seize the initiative and conducts offensive operations in Izium-Barvinkove direction. To this end, the enemy fires artillery on the Ukrainian positions in the area of Hrushuvakha, Nova Dmytrivka, and Kurulka.

In addition, the enemy amassed up to 40 units of Mi-24 and Mi-8 assault and transport helicopters in the territory of the Belgorod region near the state border of Ukraine.

In Donetsk direction, the enemy assaults the settlements of Lyman, Orikhove, Popasna, Velyka Novosilka, Huliaypole, Komyshuvakha, and Orikhiv.

During the day, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to gain a foothold in the village of Oleksandrivka in Lyman direction.

In Sievierodonetsk direction, the invaders launched an offensive in the direction of Voyevodivka but failed.

In Popasna direction, the enemy tried to expand control over the settlement of Orikhove but had no success.

As noted, the enemy fires on the Ukrainian positions almost along the entire line of contact to restrain the actions of defense forces. The invaders launch air strikes in the areas of Avdiivka, Mariupol, Sievierodonetsk, Kramatorsk, and Huliaypole.

In Novopavlivsk direction, the invaders attempted to storm the settlement of Novosilka. The enemy suffered losses and retreated.
