Russian troops shell Zolochiv in Kharkiv region, damaging houses and schools

Russian troops early on May 2 shelled the settlement of Zolochiv in the Kharkiv region, damaging private homes and two educational institutions.

The press service of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"According to the investigation, on the morning of May 2, servicemen of the Russian armed forces fired on the village of Zolochiv, Bohodukhiv district. Six residential buildings and two educational institutions were damaged by the shelling," the statement said.

Proceedings have been launched due to the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pretrial investigation is being carried out by investigators from the SBU office in the Kharkiv region.

The Zolochiv district is constantly under fire. The community borders on Russia and the Derhachi district, where hostilities are taking place and some territories are occupied by Russian forces. According to Viktor Kovalenko, the head of the community, 22 locals have been killed and about 60 injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.
