The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will help Ukraine repair nuclear power facilities damaged by Russian shelling.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said this at a press conference following a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

“Today, we have agreed that we will continue to work to restore the capacity and infrastructure that was damaged in recent weeks,” Grossi said.

He stressed that despite the difficulties, “it’s important to look into the future, look into peace, the moment that Ukraine will regain its peace, its tranquility, and the safety that all its citizens deserve."

The IAEA Director General also stressed that IAEA, as an international organization, will stay with Ukraine on this path.

As reported, on April 26, the anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, Russian missiles flew directly over the Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi and South Ukraine nuclear power plants.

From February 24 to March 31, the Chornobyl nuclear power plant was under control of Russian troops.

On the night into March 4, Russian troops captured the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
