Pentagon chief announces creation of contact group on Ukraine

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has announced the creation of an international contact group on Ukraine's defense with the participation of more than 40 states, which met for the first time at the Ramstein Air Base on Tuesday.

Austin said this at a press conference in Germany, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“We’re going to extend this forum beyond today,” Austin said, announcing the formation of Ukraine Contact Group that will be held each month going forward.

“The group will be a vehicle for nations of good will to intensify our efforts, coordinate our assistance, and focus on winning today’s fight [against Russian aggression] and the struggles to come,” he said.

As Ukrinform reported, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken paid a visit to Ukraine, where they met with the Ukrainian leadership.
