"Threat to Kyiv hasn’t disappeared": City State Administration

The Kyiv defense operation was successful, but it’s too early to claim that the capital is secure.

That’s according to Serhiy Korniychuk, Chief of Staff of the Kyiv City Military Administration, who spoke at the national telethon, Ukrinform reports citing the Administration's press service.

"Today we can state that the operation to defend Kyiv lasted from February 24 to April 2. The goal of the operation has been achieved. The enemy was stopped, they suffered significant losses, their logistics system was disorganized, and personnel – demoralized,” Korniychuk said.

According to the official, the operation can be considered complete, but the threat to Kyiv has not disappeared. The enemy has not given up its aggressive intentions, so defense forces must be prepared to defend the capital in the future.

"It is important to run an in-depth analysis of our operation, at the stage of both preparation and implementation. We need to understand what we succeeded in achieving and what we failed to do, what are the things that need to be considered to prevent shortcomings and improve our capital’s defenses in general," Korniychuk said.

He stressed that the Kyiv defense was multi-tiered, to be able to withstand both the assault by a large group of forces from various directions and a long-term siege.

"Having a significant advantage in manpower and equipment, especially in the first days of Kyiv's defense, the enemy was still unable to seize the offensive initiative. This happened due to the proper construction of our defenses, the effective use of natural barriers and, of course, the heroism of our defenders," said the Chief of Staff.

The lieutenant general thanked all those who support the city's livelihood, the defenders of Kyiv, and all concerned citizens who came in to help the military.

As Ukrinform reported, on April 6, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko called on Kyiv residents to refrain from returning home as the threat of shelling remains in place.
