In the evening of April 1, 2022, a total of 2,000 more civilians evacuated from the city of Mariupol, besieged by Russian troops, arrived in the city of Zaporizhzhia.

The relevant statement was made by Mariupol City Council on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“That’s how the evacuated Mariupol residents got to Zaporizhzhia last night! Some by their own cars, some by buses. More than 2,000 people in total,” the report states.

Each Mariupol resident was provided with assistance, from food to medicines and accommodation.

According to Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko, the rescue of all Mariupol residents is the priority task of the Ukrainian authorities at the moment.

“Every day we make every effort to continue evacuation. I am grateful to Zaporizhzhia regional and city administrations and personally to Iryna Vereshchuk, as well as all partners helping us to rescue people. Special thanks to our Mariupol residents. You are the true heroes, people with a steel character,” Boichenko stressed.

In his words, the rescue of Mariupol residents is underway.

A reminder that the Russian aggression has caused one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the city of Mariupol. Russian invaders are bombarding unarmed civilians and blocking humanitarian aid. According to Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko, as of March 27, 2022, the death toll among civilians reached about 5,000 people, including about 210 children.
