Russian troops kidnap Slavutych mayor, seize hospital

The Russian invaders threw stun grenades at civilians who gathered for a pro-Ukrainian rally in the town of Slavutych. Slavutych Mayor Yuri Fomichiv has been kidnapped by Russian military.

According to Ukrinform, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Pavliuk, wrote this on Telegram.

“The Russian occupiers invaded the town of Slavutych and seized the town’s hospital. Residents of the town came to a pro-Ukrainian rally with national symbols. They gathered on the main square and chanted ‘Slavutych is Ukraine’, ‘Glory to Ukraine’. A large state flag was unfurled. The invaders opened fire. They threw stun grenades into the crowd,” he said.,” he said.

According to the latest information, the invaders kidnapped Mayor Yuri Fomichiv. At the same time, the town’s council continues to work.

As Ukrinform reported, on February 24, 2022, Russian invaders captured Chornobyl NPP, where residents of Slavutych work. On March 20, Chornobyl NPP’s personnel were partially rotated and the persons who had been staying within the plant’s site temporarily occupied by Russian troops were evacuated.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
