Vereshchuk: More than 5,500 people evacuated under shelling today

More than 5,500 people were evacuated under the constant shelling through humanitarian corridors on Sunday.

"In total, today we managed to evacuate more than 5,550 people under constant shelling," Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk said in a video address, Ukrinform reports.

On March 13, there were 14 humanitarian corridors, of which only 9 actually worked.

In particular, according to her, 3,950 people were rescued in Kyiv region; 600 people were rescued from the town of Borodyanka from the third attempt to open the corridor and transported to the city of Zhytomyr.

“The village of Peremoha of Baryshivka united territorial community. We managed to free a thousand people due to very tense negotiations today. The occupier did not fulfill its commitments and forced people to return to the bomb shelters and basements, from where they came out hoping to leave the dangerous place," Vereshchuk said.

In addition, she noted, 375 people, including 198 children, were evacuated from the village of Velyka Dymerka; 600 people – from the town of Bucha; 1,000 people – from the villages of Dymerka united territorial community.

Also, according to Vereshchuk, 1,600 people were evacuated from Luhansk region on March 13. In particular, 400 people were evacuated from the town of Lysychansk, 350 – from Rubizhne, 600 – from Severodonetsk, 250 – from Kreminna.

"At the same time, the humanitarian corridors for five populated localities did not work as the armed forces of the Russian Federation violated the agreements reached," Vereshchuk said.
