In Chernihiv, the bodies of 22 victims of the latest Russian bombing of a residential neighborhood were discovered as emergency teams scrambled to clear the debris.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

"Chernihiv. As of 3:30 p.m., 22 bodies were retrieved from the rubble as a result of airstrikes. We continue the search operation," the statement reads.

Throughout the day, Russian warplanes fired missiles at apartment blocks in the central part of Chernihiv, a regional center located nearly 100 miles northeast of Kyiv.

As reported earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Feb 24 declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops have been destroying key infrastructure, massively shelling residential areas of Ukrainian cities and towns, using artillery, MLR systems, and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
