Ukraine receives weapons from its partners every day, and the first group out of 16,000 foreign volunteer fighters is going to the country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in his address on March 3, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Ukraine receives weapons every day from our partners, from real friends. Every day [we receive] more and more powerful weapons. Ukraine already meets foreign volunteer fighters who are going to our country. The first [volunteer fighters] out of 16,000 are going to defend freedom, to protect life - for us, for all, and it will be successful, I'm sure," he said.

As was reported earlier, Ukraine is creating an International Legion of Territorial Defense out of foreigners who want to join the resistance to Russian aggressors and protect world security.

On February 28, Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said several thousand foreigners had expressed their desire to join the International Legion.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure, massively shelling residential areas of Ukrainian cities and towns using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.

Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
