Czech PM supports Ukraine's accession to EU under special procedure

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala supports Ukraine's accession to the European Union under a special procedure.

That's according to the Novinky news site, Ukrinform reports.

According to Fiala, it must be made clear that Ukraine is welcome in the European community of democracies.

"Although I am a supporter of standard procedures, we are not in a standard situation now," Fiala said, commenting on the call by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to grant the country EU membership under a special procedure.

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine was applying to join the EU under a special procedure.
