At least 8 killed, 20 missing due to methane gas explosion at coal mine in Lviv region

Eight miners were killed, six were injured and 20 other workers were still missing due to a methane gas explosion in a coal mine in the village of Hlukhiv in Lviv region’s Sokalskiy district.

This has been reported by the press service of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.

According to the report, 172 miners were on shift, 34 people were at a depth of 550 meters when the explosion ripped through the mine, eight of them were killed in the blast, and another six were injured.

The fate of 20 miners remains unknown.

The collapse investigation has been launched.
