European Federation of Journalists to initiate appeal in support of Sushchenko, Semena

The European Federation of Journalists will initiate an appeal to the governments of the European countries with a demand to influence Russia for the liberation of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko and cancellation of a criminal record of Mykola Semena.

Chairman of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Serhiy Tomilenko said this in a commentary to an Ukrinform correspondent upon the meetings with the European partners at the international Free European Media conference, which ended in Gdansk on Friday.

"Next week, the European Federation of Journalists will officially call upon their members to support the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and address their governments with the request to put pressure on Russia to release Roman Sushchenko and cancel criminal record of Mykola Semena for his articles," Tomilenko said.

He noted that he had discussed the support for Ukrainian journalists, which are being persecuted by the Russian authorities, with General Secretary of the European Federation of Journalists Ricardo Gutierrez, the leaders of journalistic organizations in Poland, Germany and a number of other countries.
