Embassy of Ukraine in Poland calls on world community to put pressure on Russia to free Sushchenko

The international community should exert pressure upon Russia so that the Kremlin stops violating the international law by occupying part of the territory of Ukraine and holding Ukrainian political prisoners, including Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko.

This is stated by the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.

"A year ago, Ukrainian journalist and Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko was illegally detained in Moscow. He is still held in a Russian prison on far-fetched charges. Russia uses repressive methods of the former NKVD against Ukrainian and Crimean Tatars," Ukrainian diplomats said.

They urge the democratic world "to exert joint pressure on Russia so that the Kremlin stops violating the international law due to its aggressive policy and occupation of a part of the territory of Ukraine and the brutal abduction and detention of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia."

As reported, the anniversary of the illegal arrest of journalist Roman Sushchenko in Moscow is marked on September 30. A year ago, on September 30, 2016, Sushchenko was arrested in Moscow, where he arrived on a private visit and was accused of “espionage”.
