Putin comments on possibility of Sushchenko, Sentsov release

Russian President Vladimir Putin does not rule out the possibility of amnesty for Ukrainian political prisoners Oleg Sentsov and Roman Sushchenko, who now stay in Russia.

He has said this at a press conference on Friday, when asked about the possibility of release of Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov and journalist Roman Sushchenko, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Tell me, please, what should we do if a film director planned to commit terrorist acts, and this is proven in court? Should we release him just because he is a filmmaker? How does he differ from staff military intelligence officer who had planned to do the same? We may release such people today, but others will come tomorrow. We should agree on termination of such actions, and then we will be able to think about the amnesty. I have no problem with that," Putin said.

He also added that "nobody wants to keep journalists in prison, if they are engaged in journalistic activities."
