Mingarelli: EU not trusts Russian charges against Sushchenko

The European Union has once again condemned detention of Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko in Russia.

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said this on Tuesday, speaking at the international conference "Safety of Journalists in Ukraine. Ending Impunity."

"We condemn detention of Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko in Moscow, who is accused of spying. We do not trust these charges," Mingarelli said.

He also noted that the European Union was concerned about cases of violence against the media in Crimea. The Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine appealed to the Russian-controlled Crimean authorities with a demand to stop to exert pressure on seven Ukrainian journalists under investigation.

As reported, Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko was detained in Moscow on September 30 in violation of all international regulations. Sushchenko is now held in Lefortovo remand prison in Moscow.
